What’s New? 10 features to anticipate in Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations in 2018

As you know, Dynamics 365 is a modern approach to ERP- an innovative approach to end-to-end business applications in the cloud, bringing companies- scalable, tailor-made solutions to match their business needs. To keep it innovative, Microsoft makes sure that their solution is updated with more features and functionality.

Here is a list of 10 features currently in development that Microsoft will introduce in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations this year.

Dynamics 365 for Project Service Automation integration with Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

External project and resource management activities done outside of Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations will be supported by integration with Project Service Automation (PSA) through Common Data Service (CDS). This will connect the project accounting in Finance and Operations with project/ resource management in PSA. This will also include syncing of projects, contract line milestones, contract lines, actuals, estimates/ forecasts, expense reports, billing and purchase orders etc.

Azure AD-based login in POS

Currently, Microsoft is working on enabling Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) based login in POS. This will offer retailers with the option to choose an authentication function for their store- like the standard retail identity or Azure AD based identity.

Mass deployment

With the second iteration of mass deployment (first being the already-released silent servicing)- silent activation of retail Modern POS and silent initial deployment will be supported. The mass deployment will realize the ability to easily script out the optimal order of installations, download devices together with their configuration files and activate the device without any special customer interactions or additional credentials.

Split load management

With this feature, there is no longer the need to wait for trucks or other transportation capacities to arrive for generating the planning load. It will only have to be decided in advance of what pallets will be allocated to what transport at a time where the transport is available to be loaded physically. Single/multiple loads can be loaded partially or even fully on the transportation capacity. Furthermore, the feature will be integrated with appointment-scheduling and will support operations whether they are with or without appointment scheduling. Several employees will be enabled to load the same truck simultaneously with the same load.

Moving single boxes pallet-to-pallet

A worker will be enabled to select/move items pallet-to-pallet in the staging area for optimal transport with balanced pallets. It will ensure customer requirement satisfaction in relation to the height of the pallets. This feature will help the worker to scan multiple items to be moved using barcodes/ entries and then scan and sanction the license plates that items should be transferred to. The work loading will be updated hence.

Implementation of reason codes in inventory counting

Reason codes will be applied in counting journals for Warehouse as well as on mobiles, with functions such as post counting journals (standard Finance & Operations functionality), Spot count, Cycle count, Threshold count, Adjustment in, Adjustment out.

Improvements in retail layout designer

This enhancement will enable users to easily switch from editing one layout to another without having to save, close, and relaunch the designer. They will be able to configure POS button grids, screen layouts, and printed/email receipt templates. The overall improvements will increase usability and efficiency to create/alter multiple layouts or to quickly view current designs.

Work exception handling

Work exception handling will permit or block the shipping processes where lesser quantity is transported than originally demanded- during an outbound shipment confirmation. As per the setup the accepted under-delivery can be decremented automatically from the delivery.

On-premises data integration

Importing/ exporting data in data management through integration APIs will be possible for on-premises deployments. Users will be able to integrate external applications with Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, so they can import/export data using data entities.

In-store shift visibility

Users will be able to view all open, suspended or blind closed shifts within the POS with the enhancement which will transform the existing “Show blind closed shifts” POS operation. They will be proffered visibility improvements and will be able to manage/update shifts in the blind closed state. This enhanced operation will be renamed to “Manage shifts”.
