Manufacturing company migrates SAP Servers from VMWare On-Premise to Azure Cloud

The Customer is a leading industrial air compressor manufacturing company. Due to separation of business from the parent company, there was a need to move client on-premise servers from the parent company datacenter to Azure Cloud.

The existing SAP server infrastructure was on On-Premise VMware environment .

A total of 42 Virtual Machines (VMs) were migrated to Azure Cloud and that included all SAP components like

  1. ECC – ERP Central Component
  2. BW – Business Warehouse
  3. Business One
  4. BPC – Business Planning & Consolidation
  5. OnBase

This included Production, Dev and QA Servers.

The Intelegain team of Cloud architects worked closely with the client in the initial phase wherein Dev and QA were migrated to Azure using Azure Migrate Service followed by Prod servers.

Necessary security recommendations were applied to Cloud environment. VM and DB level backups were setup using Azure Backup service.

Setting up network connectivity in Azure:

Intelegain team setup the FortiGate firewall in High Availability (HA) mode for secured internet access to Azure servers. Internet access was enabled to servers only through firewall.

For On-premise connectivity Cisco SDWAN appliance was setup on Azure. Site to site VPN was setup between on-premise Cisco device and Cisco appliances.

Setting up Disaster Recovery (DR) for SAP Prod environment:

United States East and West regions were chosen to setup the primary servers and DR respectively.
